Become a carnivore keeper for the day! You’ll learn all about the different characters, their history at the zoo, as well as the fine balance of the feeding routine and training that is so important to keeping big cats and other carnivores healthy and happy.

This is an intense, hard work, hands-on experience starting at 9:30am and running through to 1pm. Your day will start with caring for some of our smaller carnivores such as our cheetah or lynx. After a quick break, you will move on to our 4 big cat species - tiger, lion, jaguar and Amur leopard. The zoo is then yours to explore for the remainder of the day. Not for the fainthearted, this amazing experience will live with you forever.

Please note, this is a very physical experience, so a good level of mobility is required.

During this experience you will get to feed our otter family. A member of our keeper team will be on hand to tell you all about them and answer all your questions.  You’ll have lots of photo opportunities but please be aware that you don’t go in to the enclosure at any time. This experience is for one person and can be bought for up to two people at any one time.

A day for the younger enthusiasts getting up close with a variety of species.

Your day starts by going behind the scenes at our reptile and bug house to meet some of our amazing invertebrates before heading out to feed and clean some of the animals in our paddocks. Then it's almost feeding time for you in our Jaguar Restaurant, but first a quick stop to feed either our otters or meerkats their lunch. In the afternoon, create some enrichment for our gelada monkeys and hear all about our big cats before finishing the day at our big cat talk. You will be with an expert host from our education team who will be ready to answer absolutely every question you can possibly think of along the way.

It is available to book on weekends and Tuesdays during school holidays running from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

*Please note that the itinerary is subject to change, depending on animal welfare, weather patterns and staffing on the day. Your host will inform you of the full itinerary during your induction. A parent/guardian will need to be present throughout the experience.

You’ll be working alongside our expert zoo keeping team caring for a wide variety of species. You’ll learn about animal diet and nutrition, husbandry and our training and enrichment programmes that keep our animals healthy and happy.

This is a very hands-on experience starting at 9:30am and running to 1pm, so be prepared for a bit of hard work and dress appropriately. But don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to take some memorable photos both during and after.

You’ll get involved with cleaning and feeding a variety of our animals including our peccaries, meerkats and gelada monkeys. Following a quick break, you'll head behind the scenes at our reptile and bug house before topping off the experience feeding our noisy otter family. Enter our meerkat enclosure and get up close to these amazing animals. Our meerkats are very inquisitive so will be interested to investigate anything or anybody new entering their enclosure! This experience is for one person and can be bought for up to two people at any one time.

The experience will last 20 minutes and there will be plenty of photo opportunities as you take a seat and scatter feed the meerkats their lunch. Please note you may be feeding them live invertebrates.

This experience is for participants ages 8 years or over. Children age 8 to 15 must be supervised by a fully paying adult. 

Please wear suitable clothes and footwear that you don’t mind possibly getting dirty. Note for your and the animal’s safety you are not allowed to touch the meerkats.

Enjoy a close fence line encounter with our beautiful Amur tiger, Dragan. One of our expert carnivore keepers will be on hand to tell you all about him, tigers in the wild and answer any questions. The experience lasts for around 20-30 mins and you can then enjoy the rest of the zoo for the day.

This experience is for two people. Please note, up to four couples may be sharing this experience at the same time.

Available to those aged 8 years old or more. A participant aged 8 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult as part of the booking.
